Six Great Hotel Wedding Ideas

It’s engagement season! Is your hotel ready?

More people get engaged between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day than at any other time of the year, about 36%. Lots of eager wedding couples are looking for venues for their big event.

Are you ready?

Here are six things you can do right away to make sure you are ready for wedding season.

  1. Buy all of the wedding magazines you can find. Read through the articles, but pay particular attention to the photographs. These will be the guiding visions for your brides and grooms.

  2. Just like you looked at wedding print publications, be sure that you are checking out the leading wedding blogs and Pinterest. Your wedding couples will be searching online for inspiration. Determine how difficult it will be to bring the trends to life at your hotel.

  3. Do you know the Pantone Color of the Year? For 2020, it's Classic Blue. Check your banquet prop storage area and reach out to your vendors to find out what kind of items are available in that color, because while it's unlikely you'll encounter a wedding planner asking for a "Classic Blue" theme, the color of the year has a tendency to make its way into the general consciousness. (It also gives you something interesting to talk about).

  4. A same-sex wedding is a wedding. Just like an opposite-sex wedding. You'll want to be sure that you and your staff know how to use inclusive language and otherwise make all of your wedding couples feel comfortable. I recommend the resources from the Equality Institute to help you with this. https://www.gayweddinginstitute.com/

  5. Talk to your chef about refreshing your wedding packages for the new year. Use the insight that you gained from looking at wedding publications, and do a price comparison in the marketplace. (Don’t forget to check catering costs for popular non-hotel venues in your area.) If you don't already, add two or three late night snack options as add-ons to your menu.

  6. Talk to your AV provider about up-lighting and other add-ons that will help create the magical look and feel your couples are seeking. Ask them to create wedding-specific packages that you can offer to enhance the event.
